For the riders who did not follow the hose.
Some road riders never went full hydraulic. They ride titanium and high-end steel, and their routes cross borders. To them a sealed hose that needs special tools is not an upgrade, it is a risk: damage it in the mountains, at a border town, in a shop that does not speak your language, and you are gambling on finding the right fluid and the right kit.
A brake cable is not a gamble. Every bike shop on earth has inner cable, housing and a pair of cutters. The GTF-6 is the flagship built for exactly these riders: full six-piston hydraulic performance, with a cable as the interface.
Six pistons. Maximum contact.
Six pistons in groups spread the push across the entire pad. Piston count is not a number to boast about; it changes how force is distributed. The contact patch is fully loaded, braking grows in a line with your finger, pads wear evenly, and confidence on a long descent stays constant.
As much as you ask for, and no more. That is what modulation means.
Why you almost never see this.
A cable-actuated hydraulic caliper has to house the mechanism that turns cable pull into hydraulic pressure, something a full hydraulic caliper does not need. Flat Mount then fixes the outer envelope tighter than Post Mount. Fitting four pistons and that mechanism into the envelope is already hard; that is the GTF-4.
The GTF-6 fits two more pistons into the same envelope. Oil passages re-routed so six pistons load together, piston layout recalculated to spread force across the pad, and enough material left to hold the reaction of six pistons at once. Space, oil path and stiffness pull against each other, and none can be optimised alone. That is why Flat Mount six-piston cable-actuated calipers are almost never seen.
Forged solid. Machined precise.
European high-purity 6061 aluminium, die-forged, then multi-axis CNC for six piston bores, the oil passages and every mating surface. Forging gives strength; machining gives precision. Pistons are 7075 aluminium with a wear-resistant coating, pulling heat away from the pad into the body so the whole caliper becomes a cooling surface, while the rotor sheds its own share through area and airflow.
Tool-free pad adjustment by hand, on the roadside. On a long tour that is not a convenience, it is a necessity.
Cables decide the ceiling of this system.
A cable-actuated hydraulic caliper takes the force from your hand through the brake cable and multiplies it hydraulically inside the body. Between lever and caliper, the cable is the single most important part of the chain.
Run compressionless outer housing and a low-friction inner cable. Ordinary housing compresses under load and eats part of your pull; a rough inner cable blurs the feedback and slows the return. These two are not optional extras. They are what lets the caliper deliver everything it has.
