Front and rear suspension is the whole point of the Birdy geometry. The stock units, though, are basic spring or block designs that bounce too much and support too little when the road turns rough or the pace picks up.

Fitting a suspension unit with real damping is the first upgrade that unlocks what the frame was designed for: composure over bumps and a front wheel that stays planted through fast corners.

A bump is not one thing. It is displacement, velocity, the end of the stroke and the air being squeezed inside. No single material answers all four. VECTA gives each variable its own part: the spring responds to how far you compress, the viscous damping medium responds to how fast, the urethane element cushions the last millimetres, and the vent lets the air out so it never becomes an invisible air spring.

Ten millimetres of travel does not sound like much. Through the Birdy linkage fork it is multiplied into a front end that feels genuinely suspended.

The Birdy fork is a linkage. When the wheel hits a bump, the suspension does not compress in a straight line; it swings through an arc. Most aftermarket units are fixed rigidly at both ends, so they fight that arc, bind, and load the expensive aluminium fork sideways.

Borrowing from double-wishbone car suspension, the JuinTECH unit carries a proprietary miniature ball joint at each end. The joints release every sideways force, so the unit moves freely at any angle. Steering gets sharper, and the fork is protected rather than worn.
